The 1998 Toyota Tacoma is a solid, no frills, small pickup truck. It is extremely capable off-road as well as a comfortable daily driver. The small body size makes it easy to maneuver whether it be around trees in the woods or other vehicles in a parking lot. The on-the-fly four wheel drive enables this vehicle to switch into 4 wheel drive whenever it is needed and back to 2 wheel operation during normal conditions. The DLX regular size cab is pretty small however and may not be comfortable for taller or larger individuals. Another problem with the small cab size is lack of dry gear storage space with only inches of room available behind the seats. I have owned this truck for over 10 years and I am still very pleased with it. It has over 250,000 miles on it now and has had no major mec... (more)
Story
Their have been a handful of times when driving along the beach roads in Florida I have encountered someone stuck in the soft, white sand on the side of the road. As long as I have time I usually stop to see if they need help digging out or if the vehicle is same size or smaller than mine I may be able to pull them out. One time I stopped in the same soft sand they were stuck in and they weren... (more)
Pros
This particular model truck, the 1998 Toyota Tacoma Regular Cab Four-wheel drive DLX with a 2.7L 4-cylinder engine, is lightweight and nimble off-road. I have never been in a situation where this truck could not drive itself out of with four-wheel drive engaged. The air-conditioning continues to impress me having never needing recharging after over a decade of constant use in the Florida heat and humidity that I live in. It is still ice cold and since the cab is on the smaller side, takes a short amount of time to cool off the interior. The manual locking hubs ensure that the axle is engag... (more)
Cons
The only negatives of this particular model truck, the 1998 Toyota Tacoma Regular Cab Four-wheel drive DLX with a 2.7L 4-cylinder engine, is the lack of space in the cab for passengers and cargo. This model is a true two-seater as it has a console in the middle instead of the bench seat that some may feature so that has been a bit of an inconvenience passenger wise but nice to have cup holders and console glove box. Also, this particular year engine has a problem with the exhaust manifold cracking.

It is an absolutely amazing truck. It has over 120,00 miles on it and is still going strong today, The inside of the truck has a very simple but effective design. The inside is extremely sturdy no rattles or problems with seat belts or any cosmetic item like mirrors. It is quite literally indestructible and that's just the interior. I just put some new tires on it after I used the old ones for more than 5 years and it rides so well you could swear it was a brand new car. One great thing about it is that even being one of the smallest trucks out there I have hauled more Objects with it and been able to weave in and out of extremely tight spaces that I would have never been able to achieve with a larger sized truck. I current have a tool box installed in the back and it is a perfect fit... (more)
Story
My family and friends always used to talk about how the truck was so small it was like almost a little toy truck. I was always driving people around and anytime people saw that little Gold truck coming they would be yelling and honking at me whenever I passed by around town and especially at red lights.
Pros
Compact size, Sturdy inside, Great gas mileage, Indestructible outside. Rides super smooth and can haul some of the biggest and heaviest items. I helped a friend transport Metal framing and sheet metal type items and I filled my truck up with it and it was absolutely no problem at all.
Cons
I can't think of many cons to this truck except for the fact that its only a 2 seater.

I REALLY LIKE MY TRUCK. IT HAS PLEASING AESTHETICS. IT IS VERY COMFORTABLE. IT DRIVES SMOOTHLY. THE 4X4 CAPABILITIES HAS GOTTEN ME OUT OF A COUPLE OF TIGHT SPOTS. IT SHIFTS VERY SMOOTHLY. PLENTY OF EXTRAS TO MAKE MY COMMUTES EASY. PRETTY GOOD GAS MILEAGE FOR A TRUCK. MY DOG REALLY LIKES THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT IS CONVENIENT TO HAUL DIFFERENT BUILDING MATERIALS AND HELPING FRIENDS MOVE. IT IS EASY TO HANDLE AND THE BED IS NOT TOO LONG FOR ME TO MANEUVER WHEN BACKING UP OR PARKING. THIS TRUCK IS ONE OF MY BEST PURCHASES. I HAVE OVER 90,000 MILES ON IT RIGHT NOW AND THE ONLY MAINTENANCE I HAVE PERFORMED IS CLEANING, OIL CHANGES AND TIRES. TOYOTA HAS A HISTORY OF EXCELLENCE WHICH IS WHY I PURCHASED IT TO BEGIN WITH. THE ONLY THING I DON'T LIKE AND THIS IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE IT THAT I BOU... (more)

I BOUGHT THE REGULAR CAB AND I WISH I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE EXTENDED CAB FOR THE EXTRA ROOM
